I Love India by Abby Cummings

March 29, 2019 - 2019 Operation: Sapna

Namaste! It’s almost been a week since I arrived in India and I am loving every minute of it!  I love the roosters that wake you up in the morning, the crazy driving on the edge of the cliff, and the beautiful Himalayan mountains that take your breath away and make Utah’s seem so small.  Most of all, I love the people.  These people are some of the most hardworking, humble, compassionate, happy and most of all loving people that I have ever met.  I have felt so much love and acceptance here in India.

Ekta is one of the girls at my school.  She is the most fun and energetic kid I’ve ever met.  She is just a little ball of sunshine.  Everyday she greets me with a hug and starts chatting to me in Hindi even though I can’t understand anything she is saying. She always holds my hand and loves it when we spin her around.  On my first day at the school, she motioned me over to her desk and put her finger to her lips.  She had a mischievous look on her face and I couldn’t help smiling at it.  She cupped my hands and gave me some of her candy, then ran off.  I was so touched by this- she barely knew me, yet she was so willing to share with me.  All the kids are like that.

Like I said before, these people are so happy and it is definitely contagious!  I have felt so much happiness and peace here in India, and I want to feel like this for the rest of my life.  I wish I could stay here forever.  India has left an imprint on my heart and I am forever grateful for these precious moments I have had.  This experience has really been eye-opening for me.  I can’t wait to see what the rest of this time has in store for me.  Thanks to everyone who helped me get here. Love you all!

  1. I am so glad you are loving it there and that India is leaving an imprint on your heart. It’s funny how perspective can change. You always thought our mountains were big, now you know different. It makes you think or wonder, what else do I not know? What other types of greatness is out there? Ekta is darling, look at her smile. But you are in trouble with your Mother for not posting a pic of you with her. xoxo

  2. Namaste!! Abby I’m so glad you are getting to experience something so life changing. We sometimes don’t realize what real poverty or hardship is like until we are helping people that struggle with it everyday. It makes you grateful for everything in your life but it also makes you realize these are material things. That true happiness is family, friends and the love for your fellow human beings no matter what race, religion, rich or poor. I’m so proud of you I could burst!!!! Love you…Auntie M!!
