So many “high’s and low’s” this trip. For the past 4 full days we have been teaching 24 girls who sacrificed so much and traveled a long way to Chamba to be taught by us. Their eagerness to learn was so amazing and inspiring. It was so fun and rewarding to be able to teach these girls because they have never been taught the YMAD lessons and just couldn’t get enough of us. Saying goodbye to them was amazing and showed how sad they were to see us leave and how much they’ve cherished this experience. The overall health of the YMAD team and the mountain girls has been a little stressful on the leaders and me. To make a long story short, I have never changed my clothes so quickly in order to rush to the hospital to help care for a very sick girl named Sapna. Some of the other mountain girls started to get sick too, and with the YMAD kids getting stomach flu’s and colds as well, we decided to send the girls back to their homes a day early. It was a sad decision because we have felt more comfortable with them as the time has gone on but it was for the best overall. Acquiring my “germ freak” status has paid off for me this far and I’ve started to convert some of the others. So many awesome things have happened this trip. Spending a day in the local general hospital was something I’ll never forget: very eye opening and a good perspective to have. Dr. Singhe was so kind and willing to show me how it has to be done here in Chamba with very little resources. I was even able to watch a minor surgery… I have loved being here spending long days teaching kids who have so little. It has been such a humbling experience and this YMAD group makes it perfect. We have put a lot of time and effort into this trip and it has definitely been a success! We have such a good time together and are constantly laughing and helping each other out. I have absolutely loved this experience and the friendships I’ve made. See y’all soon.
