Scott Melis: Sweetest Girls in the World

August 13, 2012 - All Posts, 2012 Operation: Kabu

Today was amazing! It was our third day with the girls doing workshops and they did such a good job. The first group I was in we taught the girls about school supplies (giving them a bag full of new supplies) and then transitioned into the days and months of the year. The girls were super excited to get their new supplies for school and took everything out with huge smiles on their faces. After teaching three separate groups we took a break for lunch. Once again the girls ate what the cooks at the NHPC prepared, while we ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. When lunch ended we went straight back to teaching! The second half of the day my group taught advanced English. The girls did really well! It has been amazing to see the progress the girls have made even in just a couple of days. That truly demonstrates  to me how much these sweet girls need our extra assistance. They deserve the absolute best and I’m so grateful we are here to try and make some kind of a difference in their lives. One of my favorite moments of today was walking with one of the girls named Bobbi to one of our workshops. She insisted that we held hands while we walked and halfway down the hall she pulled me down and gave me a big kiss on the cheek. It was such sweet moment and something I will never forget. It’s little things like this that I take for granted back home. I just hope that the girls feel somewhat of the love I felt today. They are absolutely incredible! I am dreading having to say goodbye and that’s still 5 days away. I’m just going treasure every second while we’re still here.
