Even a Grape Can Make a Difference by Savannah Beck

April 2, 2019 - 2019 Operation: Sapna

One of the most amazing things about India is the people and their desire to give. First, there are the amazing teachers at our school. We call our principal “BB” and she makes sure we are always happy and taken care of. Every morning she warmly welcomes us and everyday at lunch she will give us something. She’ll give us bananas, grapes, cookies, fanta, mountain dew, blessings, nuts and these small Indian potato chips called moondal. And she makes sure we take PLENTY. She got mad at me today for not taking enough of the moondal. She greets us every morning with a bright smile and takes countless pictures with us, and selfies too of course. I want to bring her home with me!

The other night some of us took a walk through the village that is right next to our hotel. One family came out of their home and gave us grapes. Another family rushed out of their home and the woman came straight over to me and gave me the biggest hug and then pointed to her husband who wanted a picture. Then they came over and wanted to take a selfie. I heard Bret in the background say “Oop Savannah’s made another friend”. They seriously acted like they had known me forever and wouldn’t let me go. They asked us to come into their house for tea, but we had to explain that we had to go to dinner. It’s so amazing that they just want to give us all they can when they have so little. They make me want to give. I want to give all that I can to the kids at my school. I’ve been giving all my energy and love to them and boy is it exhausting! You pick one kid up and you are done for! But it is so worth it to see the huge smiles across the kids’ faces. I’ve loved watching all of the kids grow this past week and open their hearts up to us. It will be so hard to say goodbye to them tomorrow, but I hope that we have made an impact on their lives.

I’ve had such an amazing time here in India so far and I can’t wait for what is to come in the next week!
