Pre-Goodbye Day :( by Lauren Carson

April 1, 2019 - 2019 Operation: Sapna

Hey everyone! These past few days have had some of the most impactful moments. I’ve seen a clash of humanity that I can’t explain and I feel so grateful to have seen it. Words and pictures cannot do this experience justice and I’ve loved this opportunity to find myself. First off, the kids earn my heart more and more everyday. Dipanshu (green sweater) reminds me of my older sister when she was little. It takes me back to when I was even smaller and trying to keep up with her. These kids wait to see our heads pop over the hill each morning and then meet us halfway with open arms and our principal does the same. She’s the most selfless person I’ve ever met and we sadly had to say goodbye to her today due to her mandatory meeting tomorrow. She has taken us into her home, showed us her family and is proud to say that we are her family too. She said that in whatever future, we will meet again. The kids can already tell that our journey is coming to an end and ask us if we are coming tomorrow. We say, “tomorrow, tomorrow,” but it will break my heart when we have to say goodbye. I’m not ready at all, but I’m surrounded by others who are going through the same thing. I want to give a public thank you to my family for their letter. We had a very emotional meeting last night and then they told us that our families had written us letters. I wasn’t expecting to get one because they don’t really write haha (don’t be mad), but I’m very grateful that they did. I needed that. I love you guys so much and thank for being so supportive. Tomorrow is going to be very difficult and I won’t be able to tell them, “tomorrow, tomorrow,” but these kids have taught me more than I could ever teach them. I’ll love them forever and ever. Much love. :))))
