The Deepest Craving of Human Nature

The deepest craving of human nature is the need to be appreciated

–William James

Gratitude is the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.  What if gratitude became a part of our everyday lives?  What would our society be like if more of us could show kindness or appreciation to those around us?

In our May Ymad meeting, we discussed how gratitude plays an important role in our lives.  It impacts our family relationships, our ability to engage with peers and teachers at school, and the way we bring strangers into our lives and make them friends.  Through the lens of gratitude we see people in a different way.  Really, we see ourselves in a different way and this change radiates outward into all the relationships that are meaningful in our lives.  If we truly appreciate each day of our life, and each interaction with another person, then those days and those interactions will be very different.  We will begin to see the people around us in a new and different way.

We should all ask ourselves what we can do to cultivate an attitude of gratitude.  Like so many skills that we develop, gratitude takes practice.  Challenge yourself to show gratitude to someone in your life, as well as to a stranger,  this week.  Let’s change the world.  Start now!  #bandhuorbust
