Operation Tyaagi- Kenzie Cooley

May 15, 2018 - 2018 Operation: Vishvaas

It seems as if our entire team has known each other for years. We stay up late, talking and giggling like the school kids we teach. We’ve become so close, sharing our hopes and dreams and secrets with one another. At first, I was disappointed that we had a smaller expedition, but now I see it as a blessing because we get to know each other so well.

One of my favorite memories from this trip is from Sunday when we got to go to a traditional Indian wedding. We dressed up in our colorfully embroidered traditional outfits and traveled an hour and a half to the wedding. The wedding guests were shocked to see so many Americans in a random Himalayan village. They asked to take pictures of us and even filmed us dancing. We danced the night away, learning their cultural dances and even teaching them some of our own.

We finished the night with a humble dinner together on the kitchen floor in traditional Indian style. Of few of the braver team members even tried eating dinner with only using their hands.

Today, all of our hearts broke a little as we said goodbye to our sweet school kids. We’ve truly made a difference here in Kallu. I feel certain that each team members heart has been touched as well. Our team is looking forward to making more amazing memories this week as we finish our expedition in Manalli.
