Suzanna Lewis - What an amazing first day!

What an amazing first day! I couldn’t ask for a better group of kids to be teaching for the next week. They are absolutely adorable and I’m already in love with every single one of them! To get to our school this morning, we had to drive up the side of the mountain for about 30 minutes and then we had to hike through the village. It seemed almost unreal, like we were in a movie or a book or something. Then, when we finally got to the school, we got to meet all of the kids. This school had never been visited by any YMAD groups, so our kids didn’t know a single word of English.  This made it hard but so much fun because everything was new to them and they got excited by the littlest things. They also didn’t understand the concept of smiling for pictures, so it was really fun to teach them how to smile. Giya, who I am already extremely attached to, was trying to listen to me but she didn’t understand so she just pulled on her cheek. Most of the kids were completely amazed and excited just to see their face on the camera screen, which was so much fun for me to see. After our great day at the school, we went to the ashram, which was an all-boy orphanage. It was so sad to walk in and see all these boys with no parents and almost no belongings. We didn’t get much time with them today, so we just played games and then gave them silly bands, which they were so excited about. When we had to leave, they all ran out to the street and stood there, waving, until we drove away. We could see how much they didn’t want us to leave, so I’m already excited to go back and visit them tomorrow. I can’t even express how much I love these kids already and everything they do. They are so interested in everything about us and they want to give us everything they have. This trip is already such an amazing experience for me, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead! I love and miss you all at home!
