It’s our first official day here in India and already it has exceeded my expectations. The landscape is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. As we drove to Manali I was in awe of the beautiful mountains and rivers. It was then that I realized how large the world is and how small in comparison I am. It was a moment that took my breath away. I love everything about this place. The culture is so interesting and the people so beautiful. As we visited a Buddhist monastery as well as the Dahli-Lama, I was reminded of this. It was all so different and unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I was blown away by the paintings and statues that covered the buildings, things I had only seen in history books. It was so amazing to actually be there.  Today also had some very monumental moments for me; eating three Indian meals without getting sick, riding a Yak, driving in a car without getting sick, paying to use the bathroom, and actually having enough money to buy everything at the market that I wanted. I’d say it was a success. One of my favorite things today was getting to meet Pooman and Lata, sisters who know a couple of the people I’m with and who were at the NHPC before. It was so fun meeting them as it got me really excited to meet the rest of the girls in a couple days. I can’t wait to begin our workshops and interact with these beautiful ladies. It’s going to be the experience of a lifetime.
