Grateful to Exactly Where I Am - by Paige Romney

I can’t adequately express my feelings about what life is like for me right now. I have never been more grateful to be EXACTLY where I am! I knew this would be an emotional experience for me, having been to India once before, but I had no idea how intense my feelings would be. As I walked off of the plane in Delhi I instantly burst into tears because I was overwhelmed. I was SO unbelievably excited to be back in the most magical place I’ve ever been to! I never thought I would get the chance to come back to India and I just couldn’t be more grateful to be in this amazing place again!

First let me just say how much I absolutely LOVE my teens! They are exceptional people and I love them with all of my heart.

-Ciana is the one who helps us remember to cherish every moment. She said the other day, “Every day that I wake up is the new best day of my life!” I couldn’t agree more! Ciana has such a big heart and wants to make sure the children really understand what is being taught.

-James is our gentle giant! He is so sweet to everyone around him and loves to make the children smile. He has been an amazing teacher and the little kids adore him! He is a great photographer and has been fantastic at taking pictures of our team members as well!

-Lauren is always helping! She does things without being asked and has really stepped up to the plate. She keeps us smiling and is so mindful of those around her! She has been so positive throughout this experience and is always wanting to do more.

-Sierra is full of energy and excitement! She is a wonderful teacher and loves the children as if they were her family. She has been a huge help and continues to have a smile on her face. She helps reenergize everyone during the day!

-Calvin is such a sweet person! He is always looking around and trying to find ways to help everyone in our group. He has been excited for everything and is always cheering people up! He has been my sidekick, always helping to carry bags and look for supplies!

-Claire is a little spitfire! She is constantly making us laugh and has been such an impressive teacher! She is rock star when it comes to making sure the children understand the lessons. She loves the kids so much and has really opened up her heart to them!

I am the luckiest adult leader!!!

It has been a very different experience being an adult leader instead of a teen for this expedition, but I am loving every minute of it! My heart wasstolen the moment I met our sweet children! I am completely smitten! There’s nothing better than having a child love you so much that every time they see you they run into your arms and don’t want to leave your side. I wish, more than anything, that I could bring every single one of these children home with me so that I would never have to say goodbye. I’m not sure how I’m going to do goodbyes this time...there’s a large portion of my heart that I left in Chamba the last time I was in India, and now another portion of my heart will be left with my new little kids. I guess that just means I will have to save more of my heart for future Indian children when I come back a 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th time!!

We have been so blessed to have the opportunity to teach some beautiful deaf girls every afternoon. I have learned some incredible lessons from these girls! I now know quite a bit of sign language in Hindi and it is just the neatest thing communicating with the girls! There is something so special about them. I have decided to bring 2 of them home with me ;) along with 4 or 5 from our other school!
