Azadi Expedition Retreat By Ava McConkie
Azadi Expedition Retreat
August 10-11th, 2018
The 2nd retreat was a hit! The talent show was a highlight for sure. We can all agree that the best performance was the opening act- the leaders doing Thrift Shop by Macklemore. It was complete with fur coats and everything. We have some amazing dancers, singers, musicians, and even hula hoopers coming to India with us.
Our dance is coming together. We finally finished the whole thing!! Thanks to the dance team for coming up with the choreography and for picking such great music. Our song is also coming along very nicely.
Also, our new Expedition Azadi t-shirts are pretty great this year! Not gonna lie, we’re probably the best looking YMAD team out there.
We had a good time getting to know each other better and spent some time working on bracelets that we will give to the kids in India.
We had an amazing lesson by Brooke who taught us all about compassion. We also participated in some great compassion exercises and learned that we all have a lot in common and a good reason to be compassionate with others. The key is making yourself vulnerable, and having sympathy for those going through a hard time. “If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” -Mother Theresa
Side note- if you want to know what a nose blaster is, Alison would be more than happy to show you. (Sorry, no photo)
WE FINALLY GOT OUR VILLAGE TEAMS! In the process, we got to know each other a little better. We each had “fun facts” and got to go around asking each other questions. We then met and determined what kind of leaders we want to be and how to accomplish this.
Hopefully our ideas for emergency lessons will be passed off by our leaders next Sunday, when we meet in our new village groups.
