Yard Sale By Naomi Cox

On April 21st, I had a yard sale to help fundraise for my YMAD India trip. I was planning it for a while but when the week it was supposed to happen came, I realized how crazy and stressful it was going to be. Not only did I have to do a bunch of things to prepare for this event but I also had skyline dance company rehearsal everyday after school, the performance on Thursday and Friday, and all the homework that still needed to get done. Honestly, I didn’t think I could do it all but, with the help from my amazing friends and family, everything eventually worked out!! When I got home around 11:00 pm on Friday, after my skyline dance company performance, my mom told me to get as much sleep at I could before I had to get up at 5am the next day. Completely exhausted, I woke hours before the yard sale to set up tables, put up signs, and put out all the items we would be selling. At this point I just had to hope that people would want to come support this good cause and that it would get me to where I needed to be in my fundraising. When we got everything set up, it was 8:00 am and people started showing up! I got so excited cause it was turning out so much better than I thought! It went on until 1:00 pm and through out that time, people kept filtering in and out, buying more and more stuff. Thanks to the help and support from my friends and family, I was able to stick it though! After I took a very much needed 4 hour nap, I asked how much money we raised from this one event. I ended up raising $1,100 dollars bringing me to about $1,300 which is more than half that I need to raise before the first fundraising due date! Even though I had the craziest, most exhausting week, I was so grateful that all the hard work was able to pay off! This experience reminded me that hard work is always worth it in the end and I cannot express how excited I am to work even harder while making a difference in the world:)
