37 angels - Macey Orth
I still can’t believe that I am in India! After days of being here I still can’t wrap my head around it. It took around fifty hours of traveling to get here. I don’t think that I can get on another plane. I guess I’ll just have to stay here. I’m only half kidding about that.
I LOVE it here! It is so pretty and different here. The roads are CRAZY. They are so windy and narrow. The drivers honk whenever they want and no one gets mad. You can’t drive like that in Utah. I almost never get carsick but I get carsick just by driving fifteen minutes to my school. My school is called Ludrera. There are 37 angels there ready to greet me every day. They are so adorable and I love them with all my heart. The first day we came to teach them they were really shy and well behaved. Since then, they have gotten more comfortable and more naughty. Today, they were little turds. They don’t listen to the lessons. They just want to take pictures, play ride that pony, or play down by the banks. I was really frustrated but my day was made when one of the fifth graders, Jyoti, winked at me. It was adorable. My fifth graders were really good and were really getting my lessons. That moment when they get it is when it makes it all worth it. The fifth graders also taught me how to say “my name is macey” and something about cat whiskers that they thought was really funny.
We have some type of curry for every meal here. I like curry but not enough to have it every meal for two weeks. we even had curry on the plane. Being here has been such a good experience. I realize all the things that I am grateful for and take for granted. For example, hot showers in a real shower, normal toilets with good plumbing, wide roads, straight roads, soft beds, clean air, SMALL spiders, and clean clothes. But I would happily give all that up any day to see my 37 angels’ faces smiling up at me.
