You Love Who You Serve
What an amazing experience! Because my two youngest (Brooklynne & Tanner) have gone to India with YMAD I thought I had a little bit of an idea of what to expect but this is truly something that cannot be expressed through words but must be felt. The deep feelings of love and gratitude that are experienced watching our teens interact with each other and with the children of India are profound. I am in awe everyday at who these kids are. I have worked with teenagers most of my adult life in several different capacities, and I don’t think I have ever seen a group of kids so concerned about others, so giving of themselves and so accepting of everyone. It is so inspiring to see these kids cheer for each other and build each other up. It is also truly humbling to watch our YMAD kids love and serve the children of India. The love our YMAD kids have given to the children here has melted away any cultural and language barriers that may have existed and the children of India have sensed their sincerity and opened their hearts to our kids. It is amazing to watch the connections that have been made in just three short days knowing that they will only get stronger throughout the rest of the trip. You don’t have to watch for very long to see that the impact the children of India are having on our kids will be life changing. I know it was for both of my kids and has already been for me. Seeing how these children from India, who have so little and yet are so happy and so loving is very humbling.
Today RuthAnne and I got an extra special treat. We were able to Skype with our family and watch as our son Tanner opened his mission call to serve the people of Uruguay. I know that because of the love he came home with from India he will very quickly learn to love the people of Uruguay.
I am so excited to see what the rest of this expedition has in store for us and to see how our YMAD kids will continue to grow and to love. They are becoming such a tight knit group. I can’t believe that tomorrow we will have been gone for one week. This trip is going by way to fast. I really am not looking forward to it being over. It is such a blessing to be part of this amazing, incredible, life changing experience.
