Taco Seasoning - Emily Lewis
I guess I’ll start with traveling to India! It was a little exhausting, but it has definitely been worth it! Anyone who knows me, knows I hate flying. But, Mom and Dad, you would be so proud of me! I only cried once in the airplane bathroom! Not really, I have to save all my tears for the coming home! It’s only been a few days but I already don’t want to leave! When we first got to India I was so surprised. It was nothing like I thought it would be. You hear people talking about poverty and seeing it first-hand. But it’s different seeing it for yourself.
When we were walking to the Golden Temple, everything looked like a movie set—it’s so pretty! I’ve also been pretty lucky because my hotel room is one of the only ones we haven’t found a spider in! I know I’m probably jinxing myself, but I have to let my mom know her prayers for no spiders are working! I’m sure you’ve read about the fire that happened right outside my hotel room. Well when everyone was grabbing their headlamps, I was literally trying to drag everything out of my room. But this experience is definitely teaching me what’s most important in life. Maybe next time I’ll grab my headlamp instead of some beef jerky.
Finally, the kids! I guess you never fully understand what it’s like to teach these kids until you have actually had the chance. I had always wondered what it is about the kids that had made my siblings fall in love with them. But I understood as soon as my village team walked through the gates of our school. I know I’ve only taught them for a few days, but I can already feel the tears building up for when we will eventually have to say goodbye. If I could, I would take every single one of them home with me! They have taught me so much more in these few days, than I could ever teach them. The first thing I learned is that you don’t need much to be happy. Another thing I’ve learned is that an innocent tickle war can turn dangerous real quick. This week has gone be so fast and I know it will be over before I know it! I don’t want it to be over!
