Happy Thanksgiving!: Olivia Dubell

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!! I hope you all have lots of turkey and rolls for me because I will be eating some yummy rice. This thanksgiving I have a lot to be thankful for. Being here in India has made it very clear how lucky I am. I hope you all are thinking about what you have to be thankful for today. First thing I am grateful for is transportation and how easy it is for us to get from one place to another. When most people here have to walk many miles to get to one place. Another thing I am grateful for is my education and amazing teachers. I am so lucky to have as many opportunities as I do and the best quality of learning. I am also so thankful for all my teachers who support and help me. So when I’m not having the best day at school when I get home I am going to think of how much the kids I taught loved to learn and how much I should love to learn as well. My last thing I am so thankful for this holiday is my family and friends. I hope you guys haven’t forgotten me. I love you all so much and thank you for giving me the opportunity to go on this trip and help these children. I am so thankful I have the best support system and people who love and care about me so much. I really couldn’t have done all this amazing stuff we are doing without you guys. I miss you all and hope you are having a wonderful thanksgiving.

This trip has honestly been amazing and honestly I can’t describe all the different lessons I have learned and experienced… One of my favorite parts of this trip so far is meeting the ymad girls. These girls are supported and shelter by ymad to learn English and further their education. I have never met more loving and welcoming people than them. The first day we walked into the ymad girls house you could just feel the warmth of everyone together and the happiness they brought upon the team. There are twelve girls that live in the house. Angeta was the girl that picked me to be hers. The very first time we met them she came up to me and wouldn’t let me go. One thing about these girls is they make you feel special and that is exactly how Angeta made me feel. Her smile honestly puts a smile on my face. She lights up the room with her happiness and she makes other feel the way she does. I don’t know what it is about her but I just love her with all my heart and I don’t know how I will say goodbye to her. Angeta and I made up a dance to a Justin Bieber song and she wanted to show it to the whole team so we did. After, we preformed it to everyone she ran up to me and gave me the biggest hug and that small little act made my whole day. Also, when they were giving us henna Angeta ran to me so she could do mine. She put her name and mine together in the henna she created so people knew who did it. I have never seen something so beautiful made in such little time. This girl warms my heart and brings me little tender moments. I am so surprised how smart these girls are and how much of a conversation I can have with them. I’m trying to tell you how these girls make me feel but it is indescribable…

Dishika is one of my third grade students. She is probably one of the most intelligent students out of all of my students. Every lesson I have had so far she knew everything and would love the flashcards. Which is surprising because most of the students hate the flashcards. I love seeing her face light up when she learns something new. Also, she is in a class of all boys and I love high fiving her after she beats the boys in the matching games or trying to guess what the flash card is. She really brings me to have new perspective on learning. Vishal is one of my second grade students. I love him because whenever I walk into the class all the kids say good morning ma’am but he always runs up to me and gives me a hug and says oliviaaaaaaa. He makes me so happy when he just hugs me and doesn’t let me go. These kids give me the feeling that I’m wanted and I can’t tell you how good it feels. Vishal always has a smile on his face. One time I was on my knees and he ran up to hug me but ran a little to fast and made me fall to the ground. I am so thankful to feel so loved by these kids and also to love them and make them feel the way they make me feel. I have the best school and I have the best students. These are just two out of forty of my bubble, adorable and sweet kids. Just by the picture you can tell how cute they are. These children have taught me more life lesson than I have learned over the past year. I love them as mush as I love all of you people back at home.

Well when I first heard about blogging I thought it was just suppose to be a paragraph but when I found out it had to be three paragraphs I thought I was going to die. It’s a lot easier to blog than I thought it would be. Hailey and Ellie I love you and miss you both. Family I hope you are having fun in Cincinnati without me and tell grandma I say hi. I love you all and miss you all. I love kids as mush as I love bread and cheese.
