I can’t even begin to explain how incredible today has been. When my village team and I first arrived to the village schools, all the kids were cheering and smiling and waving. I felt so overwhelmed by how excited they were to meet us. We began giving them hugs and shaking their hands. There’s a lot of energy and excitement in these kids. I’m not going to lie though. It was really really hard to teach them. There were so many in each group, they all crowded and could not sit still. It got easier as I began to get a feel for how things would be.

After that, my team and I went to the village homes to visit. The people were so kind and welcoming. They embraced us with love without any questions. Then we headed to the Main Day Boarding School. These girls are incredible! I instantly fell in love with them all. Each of them were involved and curious to learn. They have so much potential and I want them to understand that. After teaching, the real games began and we goofed off for a little bit before leaving for the day.

When the whole team left the schools, we had a Welcome Ceremony with the woman allowing us to stay here with them. It was a beautiful ceremony and very touching. Later, all the girls in our team got to go shopping for Sarees. It was quite the adventure. I saw a lot of poverty that I have never been exposed to. It was almost unreal. We also felt very watched. We definitely stood out. Looking through all the different designs was paradise. There were so many colors and patterns to choose from. I don’t think any of us regret our choices.

This entire day was a dream. I loved when the girls would take my face in their hands and kiss both my cheeks. Although the driving here is insane and confusing, this entire place is stunning and the love I feel from everyone is so strong. For getting only 3 hours of sleep the night before, I think I can say that today was a successful one and I look forward to the rest.
