Monkeys and Motorcycles

So today was the first day of teaching in the schools, and it was such an honor to get to meet such intelligent and fun kids. We played lots of games together at lunch and after school, and I’ve never felt more present. The kids love to hold my hands and have piggy back rides, and I love watching them learn and laugh. When I left the school today, the kids all hugged me and waved; it is amazing how close I already feel to them even though I’ve only known them for one day. We don’t speak the same language, but love it universal.

I also picked out some fabric for my pantsuit today, and it was the first time I got to see the center of the town of Chamba. Walking down the street felt like being on another planet. The streets are so narrow that everyone has to walk single file to avoid getting hit by a motorcycle.

Yesterday I got to visit the Golden Temple and it was absolutely breathtaking. It was almost eerie to be among so many people as they quietly meditated. The peaceful energy was refreshing after the chaos of five different airports and the traffic in Amritsar.

The food here is delicious. It isn’t as spicy as I thought it would be, and the weather isn’t as hot either! It is definitely very chilly, and I am so glad my mom insisted on the heavy-duty sleeping bag.

I can’t wait to go back to school tomorrow. India is enchanting
