Lalsa By Lauren Carson

Namaste! My experience so far has been everything and more. I can’t believe I’ve only been here for 3 days when it feels like it’s been forever. I fell in love with the culture right when we got off the (multiple) planes. I love how every step I take has a new smell rushing up my nose. I love the bugs that attack me, the skinny roads, crazy drives, the curry, the cold showers, the mice in our rooms, the henna, the colors, the music and most of all… THE KIDS!!!! These joyful kids have been all over us since day one and have been giving us so much love everyday. I’ve never had a challenge like this feel so light and effortless. Their eyes grow just by looking at your hands and I’m so lucky that I’ve gotten to see this much happiness in such little time. The village already knows who we are and greet us everyday with smiles. My school is on the edge of a cliff with a perfect view of the Himalayas and it only has 10-15 kids, which is less than we expected, but It’s given me a lot more one on one with the kids and we’ve gotten so close already. The middle school is also right above us and they get to come down and play games with us. The girls are so beautiful and I’ve never seen boys act more caring. It’s funny to watch locals stare at us with skepticism until we wave and then they treat us like family. The acceptance is overwhelming and I’m very fortunate. The children call me “DD” which means older sister, and they are the younger siblings I never had. I’m so excited to watch this experience grow everyday. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Much love. Peace out!!!!

  1. What a great story Lauren, thank you for the sharing. We really appreciate it, we grasp every little word y’all tell us. I am glad the curry is good and you like it. Not complaining about a cold shower… you go girl! That is fun that you are near the middle school and get to interact with the older kids! Keep smiling!

  2. Lauren you are an amazing girl to love bugs, mice and cold showers. I loved how you described India the sights, sounds and smells. It has been so fun to see India through each person eyes. And of course a picture is worth a 1000 words. Keep the pictures coming, they are amazing!
